Scope of Position: Sound Transit is seeking a highly motivated IT Senior Systems Engineer for architecting, designing, deploying, and supporting the agencys enterprise server and BackOffice infrastructure. The IT infrastructure group currently consists of 8 positions managing agency server, network, and telephony resources. This position is a senior level member of the server team, and will be providing technical leadership to staff. This position requires advanced expertise in IT infrastructure including Windows Server 2003/2008, Active Directory, VMware, and SAN technology.

Essential Functions and Job Duties: This position description reflects a representation of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
Architect and design server, storage and backoffice systems in production and lab environments ;design and maintain highly available, secure, and reliable systems
Server consolidation using server virtualization technology; administer, configure and support agency LAB and Production VMware environments
Manage and maintain storage infrastructure including SAN
Develop and maintain infrastructure standards; develop and promote standard operations documentation including procedures, checklists, and instructions
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and coaching to team members
Oversee administration of systems maintained by server team including Windows OS, Backup System, SAN, Exchange, File Server, and Print Servers.
Provide advanced expertise in Windows OS, Group Policy, Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP.
Responsible for business continuity and disaster recovery architecture and plan
Develop and implement operating system enhancements to improve server reliability and performance
Perform root cause analysis and repair of escalated technical issues and trends; assist team members as needed to resolve advanced technical issues
Research, design, develop and implement solutions for fault tolerance, performance enhancement, capacity optimization, and configuration management for applications.
Manage system performance, reliability and availability to service level agreements.
Ensure hardware and application security and controls meet or exceed guidelines.
Develop proactive server performance monitoring, including trend analysis, to enhance systems reliability
Ensure server team performs preventative maintenance; plans and installs patch updates on servers.
Provides expert knowledge of industry principles and practices for the area of responsibility.
Ensures consistent, timely, and effective response for technical incidents escalated to server team

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
5+ years IT Systems Engineer experience in a distributed, enterprise production environment.
5+ years experience with Active Directory, group policy, LDAP, WINS, DNS, DHCP, and Windows Server
4+ years VMware ESX experience including server consolidation, server image creation, VM builds, backups, performance monitoring and adjustments, license management, software patches, driver updates. Specific ESX 4.x experience highly desirable
4+ years experience configuring, troubleshooting and managing EMC SAN storage including configuring fiber switches, creating LUNs and replication of storage
Specific architecture and design experience including: network storage, virtualization, distributed file system, data replication between distributed sites, disaster recovery, and backup systems
Specific experience implementing, configuring and administering MS SCCM in a production environment
Highly experienced with major hardware components, including memory configuration, RAID configuration, backup systems, storage technology, clustering and load balancing
Proven ability to lead process improvement efforts, implement process changes, and improve productivity through process improvement
Ability to define vision and goals for the team, and implement changes to meet goals
Results orientated with the ability to impact and influence decisions.
Strong communications skills to coordinate with co-workers, customers, and vendors.
Experience working in a environment where IT Service Management tools are utilized ( ITIL or similar recognized industry framework)
Highly desirable certifications: MCSE, VMware
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
